Cycling!

I make my entry into the blogging world again, after losing the precious memories of many years ago. I hope to make it a success this time.

Today is a great day. I was able to convince my 6 year old to take off his trainer wheels and learn to balance his bike on his own. We have been through many rounds of arguments on it before and had convinced him to take them off earlier, he did, and had them put right back on.

And who taught him today?............................................ His friends!

One stood behind to push him and the other stood at a distance to help him stop. The encouragement they gave him was incredible. I guess I'd have been cautioning him more than encouraging him. I was glad I had gone for my walk, I figured he'd just walk around sitting on his bike and I wasnt worried since his feet touch the ground.

His friends are older, in 3rd and he's in the 1st standard. They told him "you are riding very well. You've learnt a lot, you will be riding like all of us in two days." He was doing well. In just a matter of half an hour he was riding and stopping on his own. I told the boys that I was glad they were helping since I dont ride...if you understand what I mean! Though in my dreams I've been the one zooming off with bikes, cars and planes, especially the open ones.

What did go wrong though was that he went and banged into the wheel plate of the sole car that was parked . It was not in a mighty top condition, which alleviated too much of guilt on my part, the wheel plate broke partially. I appologised to the driver many times and then stood guard in front of the car, since my son was feeling bad about it and almost lost his enthusiasm.

I thanked the boys and told them that I want to give them a party for doing such a great job. They were just shy.

At home my son kept asking how happy I was. Then he asked 'how many percent" and I said "100". He said "only 100?"
